The brain is an intricately designed organ that helps in the aid of daily life. It is able to control all other organs and bodily functions and even manages all actions, memories, or feelings that can be experienced. It is essential in the functioning of daily life. However, there are times in which it can be deceitful, sometimes even showing things that are not even there. This causes one to doubt the very nature of things and can even explain why it is that things such as ‘second thoughts’ or ‘fear’ crosses the mind. Henry James, the author of The Turn of the Screw, uses these â€Å"defects of the mind† to destroy the barrier between reality and fiction. The Turn of the Screw exists in a reality that is retold more than once and in many instances, it depicts the twisted perception of a protagonist with an overactive imagination and even goes as far as to show how the reader perceives the certain perceptions of others. How one is able to view a certa in reality, solely depends on a person s reaction to certain situations as well as the mental stability during the action or moment. I have always found that statement to be rather odd when the very definition of the word means to reach a decision based on the information given to us, or what we witness. In everything we do, and through our daily actions, fact is that we are always measuring or making judgments from our own Point of Reference. Even when we are asked to answer the question: â€Å"Is Sustainability a realistic objective for society?† we may first make inferences and interpret the question from our specific point of view. But we may not all conclude the same findings because our inductive reasoning is what will direct our own conclusions (Butte College, n.d.). We may interpret everything in terms of our own cultural frame of reference. If we all have cell phones, does it mean we are all connected? And every time you see someone on a bike, does it automatically mean that person leads a sustainable lifestyle? Whatever side of this argument you identify yourself in, we can agree there is a need for more sustainable practices. In a perfect world, our values should not interfere with new information introduced in our lives, without first examining all elements of that initial introduction. The bond was strongest in moments of high emotion, and judging from Adrian’s face when the dragon had been chasing us, his emotions had been running pretty strong. Jill returned an hour later, bearing a rectangular glass aquarium, like the kind you’d keep fish or gerbils in. â€Å"Where’d you get that?† I asked, moving a lamp off my desk. â€Å"My biology teacher. Our guinea pig died a couple weeks ago, and she’s been too sad to replace him.† â€Å"Didn’t she ask what you needed it for?† I examined the tank and found it spotless, so someone had apparently cleaned it after the guinea pig’s unfortunate passing. â€Å"We can’t have pets.† â€Å"I told her I was building a diorama. She didn’t question it.† Jill eagerly brought the aquarium over to the desk. â€Å"We can give it back when you get your own.† I set the quartz crystal inside and slammed on the tank’s lid, making sure it was securely attached. After more entreating from Jill, I spoke the summoning words. A bit of smoke appeared, and the quartz transformed back into the dragon. Mercifully, he didn’t make any more of that screeching, so I guessed he was still full. Instead, he scampered around the tank, examining his new home. At one point, he tried to climb the side, but his tiny claws couldn’t get traction on the glass. â€Å"Well, that’s a relief,† I said. Jill’s face was filled with wonder. â€Å"I think he’ll be bored in there. You should get him some toys.† â€Å"Toys for a demon? Isn’t it enough that I give him pie?† â€Å"He wants you,† she insisted. Sure enough, I glanced back at the tank and found the callistana regarding me adoringly. He was even wagging his tail. â€Å"No,† I said sternly. â€Å"This isn’t a Disney movie where I have an adorable sidekick. You aren’t coming out.† I cut off a piece of blueberry pie and put it in the tank in case he wanted a midnight snack. No way would I risk a late-night wakeup call. After a moment’s thought, I added a stress ball and a scarf. â€Å"There,† I told Jill. â€Å"Food, a toy, and a bed. Happy?† The callistana apparently was. He batted the ball around a few times and then curled up on the nest I’d made with the scarf. He looked more or less content, aside from the fact that he kept watching me. â€Å"Aww,† she said. â€Å"Look how sweet he is. What are you going to name him?† Like I needed something else to worry about. â€Å"His ‘father’ can name him. I’m already on the hook for the Mustang.† After a bit more swooning, Jill finally retired for the night. I made my own preparations for bed, always keeping one eye on the dragon. He did nothing threatening, however, and I even managed to fall asleep, though my sleep was restless. I kept imagining he’d find a way out and come get into bed with me. And of course, I had my usual fears about Veronica coming after me. I did hit one stretch of sound sleep, during which Adrian pulled me into a spirit dream. After our earlier fight, I honestly hadn’t expected to see him tonight, a thought that had saddened me. Sometimes he did it to numb spirit, but he seemed to still want to access that magic tonight. And of course, half the time, he didn’t even need a reason to drink. Deep inside me, I wondered if our fight had driven him to it. I didn’t know whether to feel guilty or annoyed. â€Å"I also had to come tonight to apologize,† he said. Hence, retention is a major factor in reading. â€Å"Wow! † I said to myself about how frustrating and tiring it must be for children with reading difficulties. I have always had the gift to gab even on paper. So when I took the â€Å"Writing† essay assignment, (Putting Ideas in sequence. ) I was flabbergasted, yet felt an overwhelmingly sense of how difficult writing must be for a child with this type of learning disabilities. The passage I wrote was entirely different than the one they viewed. Writing is an essential part of being a student in any kind of school K-12 and beyond. I tried the tracing activity and could not really trace anything, but it reminded me of something. It’s funny that my nephew knew how to write his name and some words before he could read well, because we always had writing material’s (pencils, markers, crayons, scrabble paper, and yeah coloring books). Tracing words or lines, circles, squares, scribble scrabble, and coloring can help most children learn how to write using these fun activities. Nonetheless a child with attention problems must go through â€Å"Hell and back† learning how to write, for you must be able to concentrate when writing. I was already irritated from the start when I saw the word I love to hate MATH. Math is one of the subjects that most people young and old either love doing, or does it because they have to, or despise it as I do. Thereupon, when I was taking the â€Å"Math† multi-step problem task I was a bit perturb from the beginning, however I did it and did fair. I have no excuse for not liking math but after reading difficulties in the Math section, I may have a problem with (difficulty comprehending the visual and spatial aspects and perceptual difficulties. In which is said to be â€Å"A far less common problem and probably the most severe is the inability to effectively visualize math concepts. Students who have this problem may be unable to judge the relative size among three dissimilar objects. Hence, if not anything I would say I may have a problem in math and that is why I hate so much. Casual Fashions of the Twenties Essay The twenties was a time of fun and craziness among the young generation. The fashion fads of the time created a path for the fashions of today. Before the twenties women wore ankle-length skirts, corsets , and other restricting garments, men wore ovewrcoats that fastened in the front, double breasted coats, and long pants. Then the twenties came and that all changed. Hemlines went up, makeup was worn in abundance, hair was chopped off, and for the first time a flat bosom was what every stylish woman wanted. Mens basic attire became the business suit. These styles gave way to the fashions of today. Today women wear miniskirts, panty hose, short and long hair, makeup, and dyed hair. Men still wear business suits, but only for work or special occasions. The styles of the twenties created a new frontier in men and womens fashion. Searching for information on twenties fashion was a fun experience for me. I did not find it very hard to do, because I had a lot of information about the histo ry of costume already at home. My best find was an actual magazine from the twenties. My family and I were out at antique stores when I found it. I was looking through through old magazines trying to find a Life magazine with the Gone With the Wind cover, when I saw the Vogue with a girl dressed in flapper costume. I was very excited about this find because I was worried that I would not find a magazine source. The toughest part of my research was finding someone to interview. I remembered that my great aunt was really old, but I did not know what year she was born. When I found out what year she was born I was very happy that I found someone old enough to remember the twenties. Then I had to talk my parents into letting me call long distance to Missouri, which was easy as long as I did not talk longer than thirty minutes. I think the best part of researching was getting to know my great aunt a lot better. Womens fashion changed dramatically in the twenties, mostly due to social cha nge. More practical attire evolved from the more liberated lifesyle women began to live. Petticoats and corsets disappeared, making way for elastic girdles. A boyish silhouette was the figure that sylish women strove for (Tierney 12). Some young women would tie rags around their breasts to try and flatten them (Todd int. 4:20PM). I could not understand why a woman would try to stunt her growth for the sake of fashion.
